Counseling psychology is an area of professional psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). According to Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) of the APA, the denition of this specialty is as follows:
The statement reects an ambitious specialty, one that offers a wide range of services to a variety of populations in many different settings. The uniqueness of counseling psychology is often attributed to its current breadth and depth, but a deeper understanding of counseling psychology can be revealed with a look back at its inception and development.
