ABSTRACT
Trust has emerged as a major issue in the organization and delivery of health services world-wide. In the United Kingdom, several incidents described elsewhere in this volume have sparked off high-profi le public inquiries which have brought to the fore questions about the safety of health care and the level of public trust in health services.
