ABSTRACT

Part III presents six provincial case studies (Ghor, Paktya, Kandahar City, Jalalabad City, Kunduz/Baghlan and the Hazarajat), based on the analytical framework presented in the previous chapters of this book, in order to demonstrate the diversity of local security conditions and dynamics in Afghanistan. Four of these areas have been the location of significant postBonn conflict, as was the case with armed disputes between competing groups in Paktya and Ghor and the riots over the proposed desecration of the Koran by US forces.
