ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I refl ect on work with adopted children in therapy – where it has been useful and has promoted development and change and where diffi culties have arisen that have resulted in premature termination of therapy. I suggest that these diffi culties have to do with the triangular relationship between the child, the parents and the therapist and consider the importance of thinking about the forces both within and between these three ‘parties’ which may be negotiated with greater or lesser degree of success.
