ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: For the performance-and cost-effective bridge maintenance, many researchers have focused on the optimum maintenance method and system of deteriorating bridges. To establish a lifetime optimum maintenance strategy of a deteriorating bridge considering the lifetime performance as well as the life-cycle cost, a more practical and realistic method is proposed and the prototype bridge maintenance system is developed. The proposed method and development system can produce the set of optimum tradeoff maintenance scenarios among other conflicting objectives such as cost minimization and performance maximization. The multi-performance indexes and the systematic integrated performance assessment model are described in this paper. The optimum maintenance scenario could be generated at the system level of the bridge through applying system reliability and weight factors by taking account of the subordinate relation due to the replacement of member as well as the individual member level. Applied examples using the developed system are also presented to verify the proposed model and method.
