ABSTRACT
The very essence of the modern usage of the term “civil society” was to demarcate a clear distinction of state and society and was conceptualized by the German philosopher, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel in his Elements of the Philosophy of Right. In his “triad” concept, civil society was distinguished from the macro community of the state and the micro community of the family. The term civil society, however, has a long history. It is definitely older than the modern world. In ancient Greece, for instance, “civil society” was closely connected with the Aristotelian notion of an ideal way of life.
