ABSTRACT

Paul's heart disease almost went undetected. While seeing his physician for another condition he mentioned an unrelated symptom that led the physician to order a stress test. Within 24 hours, Paul had coronary artery bypass graft surgery. He recalled, "They told me that had I not done anything with this, that I'd have had a 50/50 chance of living a year." Now that he is recovered, however, he feels confident about the future, saying,

I have so much information from the hospital, visiting nurses and numbers to call if I have any problems. That's why I never really had any concerns that I couldn't get answers. . . . We had one little flare-up the other day, my wife wanted me to call a nurse. I just waited a while and it went away.
