ABSTRACT

How parents talk about their divorce to their children can have a profound effect on children's well-being and their relationships with their parents. Indeed, children need some information about the divorce to reduce their uncertainty and adapt (Afifi, Coho, & McManus, 2009). Most parents would agree that they need to talk to their children about the divorce. The difficulty rests in knowing what to tell one's children about the divorce, how much to tell them, and how to communicate it. These conversations are complex and often occur throughout the divorce process.
