ABSTRACT

Among the chapters in this collection, our focus on termination in inpatient and residential settings is unique for several reasons. First and foremost, ours is likely the only context in which a single client terminates with a collection of providers. Unlike the typical 1:1 nature of individual psychotherapy, patients in inpatient and residential settings form many relationships during their treatment course, with both providers and fellow patients, and subsequently experience multiple terminations upon discharge.
