ABSTRACT

Drawing on the results of a Leonardo da Vinci project investigating management training and development (MTD) in seven countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Romania, Spain and the UK), this chapter seeks to interpret the nature and meaning of MTD in France, in comparison with the other six countries. In each country, 100 enterprises were surveyed and telephone interviews conducted with the HR manager (or other responsible for MTD) and a line manager that had benefited from MTD initiatives. In the second phase, ten companies were selected for indepth case study in each country. Chapter 3 provides an account of the UK strand of this research.
