Economic integration and structural change: The case of Hungarian regions

Since 1989, Hungary has gone through a phase of fundamental economic and social transformation from a centrally planned economy into a functioning market economy. This change was not as sudden as in some other countries of the former Soviet bloc, as reform attempts have been present in Hungary since 1968; however, it was a systemic change bringing new issues and problems into the foreground.
