Watching, waiting, and deciding when to intervene: Race, class, and the transmission of advantage

The intersection of race and class is an important, but somewhat vexing, subject for sociologists. While it is widely agreed, for example, that members of the black middle class draw on their class resources in confronting the experience of racial discrimination, the actual benefit that class confers has often been presumed. There are few studies that demonstrate how class works in the rituals of daily life.
