ABSTRACT

Presently there is in excess of 200 billion dollars being projected for or spent on ecological-reclamation projects around the world (Cunningham 2002: 1-6). There is the projected 20 billion for the restoration of California rivers and deltas, 12 billion for the restoration of a single watershed in China, and the 7.8 billion already spent (and the total is rising) for the restoration of the Florida Everglades. Also contributing to this sum is the cost of many thousands of small projects, from mine-water mitigation to stream restoration by small environmental groups like Trout Unlimited in the United States.
