ABSTRACT

Psychology departments across the nation recognize the importance of frequent review and update of curricular offerings. Many psychologists do not recognize that the same process of review and update must be in place for statistics and methods courses, as well. The final project incorporates a service component that the author have developed for the course. All students must keep a journal of their activities, including meeting dates, content of discussion, questions that consultees had, and so on. The assignments the authors have discussed are consistent with the promotion and assessment of student learning outcomes, in that they result in document-based bodies of work that exemplify facets of statistical analysis. In addition, the authors encourage their colleagues who teach other courses in the department to incorporate statistical analyses whenever possible, thus keeping the concepts and skills fresh for students.
