ABSTRACT

Students and faculty can engage in collaborative research ventures beyond the research methods/experimental psychology course in a variety of ways. Because students in the lab group typically are involved in several complete projects, their knowledge of the research process is superior to that of the students who conduct only one project in order to satisfy the experimental psychology course requirement. The lab group students also have a better appreciation for and love of the research process; however, these differences are likely attributable to the fact that the lab group is self-selected, whereas the experimental psychology course is required of all majors. Students are not the only ones to benefit from student–faculty research collaboration. Recently, the author experienced a whole level of pride and excitement when a student of one of the author former lab group students presented their first convention paper.
