ABSTRACT

A lmost 10 years later to the day I find myself on the sidewalk in front of the Shores’ house. As I approach the house, I remember that the last time I visited, their screen door was broken. It took a bit of finesse to get it open and not have it slap me in the behind as I entered. I wondered if 10 years later it had been repaired or was still “hanging on.” To my delight, I found the front door to the Shore's house more solid than I had remembered. The metaphor did not escape me.
