ABSTRACT
The social and economic crisis that currently threatens the health and survival of poor and minority communities in the USA is not a static or isolated phenomenon. It has deepened alongside an unprecedented consolidation of wealth in other regions and economic sectors – a consolidation that both exemplifies and stems from the growing corporate hegemony that has characterised Western economic development in recent years.
