ABSTRACT
Abiew, lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, defends the emergence of a right of humanitarian intervention, and argues that state sovereignty is not incompatible with the latter. Following a review of historical precedents, Abiew concludes by assessing contemporary developments in terms of sources and support for intervention on humanitarian grounds.
