ABSTRACT

On a crisp early September morning, four groups of Muslim terrorists boarded the planes they would use as instruments of destruction, aimed symbolically and literally at the heart of America’s economic, political, and military institutions. Two planes targeted and demolished the World Trade Towers, icons of American entrepreneurial spirit. A third plane struck the South Wing of the Pentagon, headquarters and worldwide symbol of America’s military primacy. The third plane, aimed at either the White House or Congress, hearts of American democracy, crashed in Pennsylvania after heroic passengers recaptured control of the plane from the terrorists.
