ABSTRACT

At the other end of the spectrum are those who manage generic administrative areas, such as physical plant and purchasing, where the managerial identity is non-problematic but where there is typically little or no connection to the academic domain and identity. Along the continuum, there exist a range of lead/managed academic, institutional, and student support operations, including registration, libraries, information technology, planning, and residence halls. Within this large ‘gray area,’ academic leadership and managerial identities blend in varying proportions.
