ABSTRACT
Under the conference subject Criticism by Design the organisers seemed to be hinting
that the notion of ‘drawing forth’1 might be deployed as a conceptual device, a means
of opening architecture to new areas of research. Such an opening might, in turn, lead
to the emergence of much-needed ideas about what, in relation to contemporary prac-
tice, critical architecture is and what critical architecture can do.
