A true master guides you into and through the dark places, oversees your initiation and encourages you to have your own unique life, with its fierce taste and its riches. This is the story of a few meetings with Joe Henderson in which the context of our connection was simple: he is very old and close to death. And he seems unafraid, and linking with him was frustrating and exhilarating and full of kindness and love and led me deeper into my own life. This is what an initiation master does – leads you into your own life. And even when you think he’s past his prime, he uses that material too. Here’s what happened for me with Joe Henderson.
