ABSTRACT
Sweden’s ‘active labour market policy’ (ALMP) is a central element of the Swedish model. It has played a decisive role in shaping today’s labour market and, indirectly, contemporary Swedish society as a whole. The institutions of the labour market set the baseline for the operation of emergent WISEs, and define the opportunities and constraints for their formation and action. A brief introduction to the Swedish model is therefore necessary to understand the field.
