ABSTRACT

Addiction! We hear about it constantly in one form or another. The word is commonly used to characterize a person’s consuming passion for a particular substance or activity. A person who loves chocolate and devours a lot of it is called a chocolate addict or “chocaholic.” A physical fitness enthusiast who is intent on never missing his daily jog is a running addict or “jogaholic.” There’s even a term for the incessant reader; she’s a “biblio-maniac,” addicted to reading. And now there is a book about people who constantly seek to please others, a condition termed “approval addiction.”
