ABSTRACT
The Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East has been the principal focus of international attention to the region. Increasingly, however, attention is turning to the development ofweapons of mass destruction (WMD) and ballistic missile capabilities by Iraq and Iran. Soon, these nations may challenge Israel's strategic regional monopoly. As the peace process moves forward, arms control in the regional security context will become an increasingly important requirement for a lasting peace.
