ABSTRACT

Elizabeth Ann Bloomer was born April 8, 1918, in Chicago. She was the daughter of William Stephenson Bloomer, a conveyor-belt salesman, and Hortense Neahr Bloomer. She longed to be called Elizabeth but was always called Betty. She had two older brothers, Bob and Bill, Jr. After living in Chicago and Denver, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, when Betty was two. They settled at 717 Fountain Street.
