ABSTRACT
Anthony Porter shuffled into the room and sat across the table from us, clad in the Cook County Jail’s khaki prison uniform, handcuffs, and shackles. His cuffed hands pushed four Jolly Rancher candies across the table to his attorney, my investigative journalism professor, a classmate, and me—a college senior at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
