ABSTRACT
Professors belong, at least nominally, to the missionary vocation. In the face of the recent erosion of interest in and familiarity with words, I have become more and more convinced that education really is a process of conversion, since good teachers devote most of their classroom hours to convincing students to abandon their mostly dearly held childhood beliefs about magic and authority.
