Compiled by a Japanese fan and photographer, this is one of the best available books on jazz photography. With the exception of the concise introduction by Abe and Nat Hentoff, the book contains no text. The mostly black-and-white photographs are arranged in a free-associative manner, and include the photographs of William Gottlieb, Jay Maisel, Bob Parent, and Charles Smith. Included are composers, arrangers, performers, vocalists, and behind-the-scenes personalities. Each of the 359 photographs is accompanied by an identification caption.
