ABSTRACT

Life in Cristóbal Obregón, a Zoque community in Villa Flores, Chiapas, 1 evolved around each sowing season. My father would take my sister and me early in the morning to sow the land. We had to walk all the way to the piece of land my dad rented to plant tomatoes. I was 12 and my little sister was only 2. We helped our dad water the tomatoes and also shared our mom and dad’s illusion to win the lottery one day. Being the eldest sister I had many obligations and responsibilities: I had to help with the household chores and I also had to do my homework. Everything had to be perfect.
