ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the need for culturally appropriate dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) services and interventions for Japanese American (JA) elders and their caregivers. Appropriate services and public policies will play an increasingly important role in enhancing quality of life for JA elders, because the risks of AD and vascular dementia increase with age and assimilation in this population (Graves et al., 1996; Larson, 1993).
