ABSTRACT

Textiles technology, as with all areas of the Design and Technology curriculum, continually develops as materials and equipment develop, ICT applications expand and new technologies become more affordable. You are referred to Learning to Teach Design and Technology in the Secondary School (Owen-Jackson 2007) for details of the subject knowledge audit and we recommend that you also look at the updated ‘minimum competences’ recommended for textiles technology teachers (DATA 2003). In this chapter we consider how textiles technology is taught in the classroom.
