Understanding how people, places, economies and environments are all inextricably interrelated, and that choices and events have repercussions on a global scale.

The issues facing young people today are more complex than ever. Television, information technologies, international sport and increased travel opportunities mean that the wider world has an immediate and central place in their lives. But if they are to be able to be fully aware of the part that they play in the world and become active participants in it, then they need to understand how it works. In order to do this they will need to understand the concept of interdependence.
