ABSTRACT

When I Visited the early years unit at Appleby Primary School, the children were enthusiastically playing in the role-play area, which was a castle with a dungeon. The concept of playing within a castle did not appear to have much relevance to the children. The queen, Olivia, wearing a long dress and crown was seated on her throne. Jamie-Lee, her ‘baby’, was crouching by her side. Jodie was pretending to feed the baby. Bethan was in role as a dog and was on all fours.
