ABSTRACT

My name is Kevin Norwood. I was first diagnosed with manic depression many years ago at the age of 17 when I was admitted into hospital in a very manic state. Previous to my admission I was doing some very strange things which I did not realise were strange at all. I will briefly explain what led to my first admission. One day I was fishing on a river in Hertfordshire with a younger friend. It was getting dark towards the end of the day and instead of packing my fishing tackle away I jumped into the river for a swim. Afterwards I walked into a nearby pub without my trousers on and asked if I could use the phone to call home. When eventually my dad, brother and uncle arrived at the pub to take me home the landlord of the pub said to my brother, ‘I think your brother is slightly mad’. We went back to the river bank to collect my fishing tackle, then headed for home.
