ABSTRACT

In a world where economic globalization is in full swing, China is becoming

an increasingly active player in the international community. China has joined most of the inter-governmental international organizations. Accord-

ing to incomplete statistics, China’s membership in international organiza-

tions is 80 percent of that of the United States,1 an important sign of

China’s involvement in economic globalization and its integration into the

international community. The interdependence between China and interna-

tional organizations has become an important subject for academic research

in international relations. This chapter, taking China’s accession to the

World Trade Organization (WTO) as a case study, aims to analyze and explore the interactive relations between China’s domestically engineered

political and economic reforms and China’s foreign policy from the per-

spective of international political economics.
