ABSTRACT

The collaborative spirit in my design/build architectural studios emphasizes economy of means, reconsideration of construction techniques, and the adaptive reuse of materials and building components. Hands-on experience provides students with a fresh perspective on what is “appropriate” design at full scale. While considering various construction strategies, students often find predetermined notions of design solutions insufficient. In response, architects-to-be learn to rely on their personal experiences and their innate sensibilities. Through the ultimate realization of their work, students apprehend a more informed architecture.
