ABSTRACT
The original Westminster model has been significantly modified by constitutional change in the United Kingdom in the 1990s and the creation of new parliamentary spaces in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These reform processes offered a set of opportunities and constraints for women in their struggle for equal exercise of political power and influence. It also enabled women activists and feminist ideas to play a role in building new institutions and processes that were anticipated to be more genderinclusive and participatory.
