ABSTRACT

This chapter explores one of the most central terms used in relation to online and networked learning: collaboration. The term is closely associated with a wide range of social and situated theories of learning and this review can provide only a brief introduction to what can be a complex area. An underlying assumption made here is that it is unproductive to search for one correct definition of collaboration; rather we need to understand how collaboration is used in current debates about education, learning and new digital technologies.
