ABSTRACT
I’d like to thank all the commentators for a rich and lively set of responses to my book. It was very much part of my aim to encourage more vigorous debate about Smith’s philosophy, so the fact that all the commentators seem to want to argue vigorously, either with me or with Smith – and especially the fact that one commentator implies that Smith, as I read him, misses the concerns that would lead one towards a rejection of capitalism, while another seems to think that I have transformed Smith into precisely such a rejectionist – strikes me as wonderful.
