ABSTRACT

Although the informal sector accounts for the majority of employment in the non-agricultural sector in the developing world it is widely recognised in the literature that there is very limited information about it and even scarcer information on homework activities (Chen et al., 1999). This is why ad hoc surveys and several focus group discussions and case studies were carried out to examine the work and conditions of women in home-based economic activities and child labour in these activities. In fact, as far as we know, there is nothing in the homeworker literature of the 1990s that specifically addresses the issue of child labour in homeworker households.1
