ABSTRACT
North Korea is the most visible and immediate factor driving recent changes in Japanese security policy. The renewed threat of North Korea developing nuclear weapons has been a major catalyst in bringing Japan’s basic defence policies up to speed and motivating Japan to make larger commitments to providing logistical support to US forces in the event of a military contingency in the region.1
