ABSTRACT

Triathlons are performed over a variety of distances. The most common (in ascending order of distance (km)) are sprint (0.75/20/5), Olympic (1.5/40/10), long course (2.5/80/20) and Ironman (3.8/180/42) triathlons. Because of the entirely different demands imposed by the different types of triathlon it is not realistic to discuss them together and therefore this chapter will deal exclusively with the two short-distance triathlons.
