ABSTRACT

In the concept policy letter 2007 the State Secretary for Defence demonstrates the policy importance of the integration of ethnic minorities in the Netherlands armed forces. Three years earlier he had stressed the importance of integrating women in the armed services. These efforts illustrate that the highest priority has been given to the recruitment and integration of minority groups in the Dutch armed services over the past three years. However, the Dutch armed services’ attention to the integration of minority groups is rooted in the 1980s, especially regarding the integration of women.1
