ABSTRACT

This chapter is a survey of the state of the fi eld of China’s foreign relations and security policy/military affairs in the United States. These have become a growth fi eld in contemporary China studies in recent years. This is true for academics in universities, but also for researchers in private sector think tanks and consulting fi rms (some of which receive government contracts for such research on these subjects). No such survey can do full justice to such a diverse and dynamic fi eld. As such, several preliminary caveats are in order.
