ABSTRACT
Conventionally historical chapters come at the start of a book, to give some idea of where things are coming from. But, in the Swiss case, recent experiences are more significant and constitutive than this. Indeed, as many chapters here imply, they play a large part in shaping contemporary political responses to the European Union. So there is a good deal of what analysts call “path dependency”.
