ABSTRACT
I attempt my task of debunking the idea of ‘East Meets West’ by using the
two important axes in anthropology today. First is the historicisation of anthropology, by which I mean that we understand culture as historical
processes and to historicise the notion of ‘culture’ itself. Second is its
corollary – globalisation in historical perspective – in which I argue against
the currently fashionable notion of hybridity.
