ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to document the current status of industrial relations (IR) in Asian countries, examine the magnitude and direction of changes in IR, and provide some analysis of prospects for the future. IR in Asia are changing for various reasons, such as the new global economic order, political democratization, changes in the composition of industry and the labour force, and the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis and the resultant economic and financial restructuring.
