ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the Jigsaw method, a cooperative teaching technique for reducing intergroup prejudice in the classroom. The first part looks at the historical conditions leading up to the Jigsaw method’s development, as well as the theory and research behind it. This discussion also touches briefly on a selection of similar cooperative teaching strategies that have proved successful in fostering more harmonious relationships between minority and majority school children. Part 2 offers practical guidance for teachers wishing to implement the Jigsaw technique.
