Code of conduct for museum professionals book
Where the museum is involved in fieldwork, it may not be unethical for surplus material to be collected in excess of the museum’s requirements, but, such material should only be collected with due regard to the conservation requirements in that subject area, and with the intention of transferring the excess material to appropriate institutions. When a major legacy or a mixed lot at auction might contain material inconsistent with the collection management policy, loans or transfers to other museums should be given priority.
